Please note: the videos were not filmed by a professional videographer and earphones or speakers are highly recommended for the best listening experience, however most of what you need to see is in the booklet (booklet includes the PowerPoint slides). EMDRIA stated in approving the course: "Overall the committee feels your presentation has great merit and that the content would be valuable to EMDR trained clinicians," in spite of the non-professional video quality, so you should find it worthwhile either way.

Directly experience exercises and techniques you can immediately apply to your practice
Learn how to intervene into psycho-somatic dissociation patterns with compulsive eaters and restrictors
Become proficient in offering clear step-by-step guidelines to teach intuitive eating and body image acceptance and empowerment
Identify triggers and interpret symbolic meanings of binge-eating, purging, starving, body image distortions, and shame
Gain knowledge about traumatic memory, attachment deficits, and the continuum of complex trauma and dissociation as they relate to eating issues
Eating problems usually involve varying degrees of dissociation - most especially somatoform dissociation of sensations of hunger, fullness, and proprioceptive awareness of body size. At present there are no highly effective systematic approaches for assessing or intervening with the many clients with intractable compulsive eating, restricting, or purging symptoms. Instead we are told that eating disorders are hard to impossible to treat and we should lower our expectations for outcomes. Yet the correlation between compulsive eating patterns and dissociation has been noted by many, however as yet there are no explanations for the reasons for this correlation, nor structured interventions with clients who may initially present with no trauma history. Through a synthesis of anecdotal data, experiential exercises, theoretical formulations, and a review of the research on traumatic memory and attachment deficits, this course will cover the continuum of complex trauma and dissociation, including training in offering psycho-education to your clients about how to identify and intervene into the binge/starve and/or binge/diet or purge cycles.
The method taught is symptom-focused, yet psychodynamic in orientation, allowing the therapist to understand and use the symptoms as metaphors for other psychological issues, while still respecting the deep pain of eating and body image obsessions.
*Please note: Courses are no longer eligible for Continuing Education credits in the United States.
