Resume Overview of Experience

 

      Before starting my private practice in 1984 specialising in Eating and Trauma issues, I had a large range of work experiences, including being co-director of a Women's Health Center, Assistant Director for a Displaced Homemakers Program, Conflict Facilitator for a program in city schools, and a counsellor for people with disabilities. I've worked with families in the public schools, preschools, and a HeadStart program. I've done abortion counselling, psychiatric counselling, and job counselling, and have led assertiveness training workshops, groups for women with compulsive eating problems, and empowerment workshops for survivors of trauma.
    Currently I maintain a private practice in West Auckland, New Zealand,  am on faculty and develop curriculum for the Human Development and Training Institute in Auckland and for the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation's Psychotherapy Training Program.  I received my PhD in 2006 and published my dissertation on the Role of Dissociated Love and Trauma in Human Violence and Evil.  I trained and became certified in EMDR in 2004.  I took 5 years of post graduate training at the Women's Therapy Centre Institute (founded by Susie Orbach) in working with eating and body image problems and published an article in the Journal of Trauma and Dissociation on Dissociation and Compulsive Eating.  I  have also published a training manual entitled Working with Dissociation.  I received a Masters degree in Family Therapy from California State University Hayward in 1992, and an MA in Counselling from New York University in 1981.
