eating and body image issues

introduction  (12 hours)     intermediate  (12 hours)    advanced (12 hours)

Meets Fridays beginning 9th May    Cost: $337.50 per 12 hour seminar, GST inclusive

Eating and body image issues are based on a fundamental split in which the body becomes objectified and forced to "submit" to the mind. All 3 seminars are based on the anti-diet, psychosomatic approach to working with compulsive overeaters, bulimics and anorexics.  The anti-diet, psychosomatic approach joins with the body, teaches mindfulness, intuitive eating, and self-compassion, and this ultimately not only changes eating problems, it changes lives. The seminars will include live, video and audio demonstrations, case supervision and role plays.

psitm seminar: ongoing training in psychosomatic integration

Meets fortnightly on Tuesdays from 1-3 PM
Cost: $67.50 GST inclusive per meeting paid 2 months in advance

PsychoSomatic Integration (PSI TM ) is for counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists from all disciplines including analytic, narrative, action-based, cognitive and somatic. The training blends lecture, experiential exercises, live and video demonstrations, case presentations, and role-play practice sessions to help clinicians integrate the theoretical material in a way that fits with their own common sense and years of education, clinical and personal experience. Particular attention is paid to the practitioner's countertransference while developing strategies for self-care. Skills learned include: somatic resoursing, embodiment, pacing, titration, self-soothing; and EMDR derivatives designed to build ego strength and process and integrate dissociated experiences and aspects of self. To learn more, check the links below:

1. Bodily mindfulness therapies (including Hakomi, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and BFF (Best Foot Forward)
2. Attachment repair approaches such as Lifespan Integration and the DNMS (Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy)
3. Ego state therapy
4. All based on a feminist relational  foundation.

ongoing fortnightly supervision group

Meets fortnightly on Thursdays from 10:15 -11:00 AM in Ranui, West Auckland
Size limited to 6 participants
Cost: $67.50 GST inclusive per meeting paid 2 months in advance

Working with trauma survivors day to day requires perspective, good self care, and clear boundaries. There is a high risk of developing secondary PTSD if the work is done in isolation. Working with folks who were traumatized so severely as to develop a dissociative disorder and/or Complex PTSD (also called DESNOS- Disorders of Extreme Stress) requires that we come out of isolation and support each other in this profoundly rewarding and sensitive work.  Paying particular attention to transference and counter transference and issues of parallel process in the consultation meeting, this size limited group meets fortnightly on an ongoing basis. Size is limited to 5 participants.

individual supervision

Individual in-person or telephone/video over the internet supervision sessions for psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, and body therapists can be arranged as time permits. The fee for this service is $135 for a 50 minute session, GST inclusive.  The therapeutic relationship is understood from a feminist relational  perspective, and supervision helps you adapt your individual learning of PSI approaches and techniques to meet the needs of your specific clients. To arrange a session, call the PSI Institute at (09) 835-1929 or email jlightstone@gmail.com For online training or supervision for those not in the Auckland area, please click here.
