*Eating and Body Image Issues:
An Introduction
12 Hour Introductory
Seminar-
Meets 2 Fridays
(9th and 16th May) from 9:30AM - 4:40PM
In this seminar you
will get
an overview of the anti-diet, psychosomatic approach to working with
compulsive overeaters, bulimics and anorexics. Eating and body image issues
are based on a fundamental split in which the body becomes objectified and
forced to "submit" to the mind. The anti-diet, psychosomatic approach joins
with the body, teaches mindfulness, intuitive eating, and self-compassion, and
this ultimately not only changes eating problems, it changes lives. Being both
symptom-focused and psychosomatic in orientation allows the therapist to use
the symptom as a metaphor for other psychological issues while still
addressing the deep pain of eating and body image obsessions. The class will
include case supervision and role plays, and is a prerequisite to additional
training and supervision.
12 Hour Intermediate Seminar meets 3 Fridays, 30th May, 13th
and 27th June from 9:30am-1:30pm
This
course
is a continuation of
the introductory seminar.
Videotaped
demonstrations and case presentations will be used to deepen your
understanding of the relationship between trauma, dissociation, and eating and
body
issues. You will learn to guide clients step-by-step in applying the
anti-deprivation psychosomatic approach to overcoming eating problems and integrate
psychoeducational work with ego state therapy.
12 Hour Advanced Course meets 3 Fridays, 9.30-1.30pm, 25th July and
8th and 22nd August
This
course is a continuation of the Intermediate seminar and it will develop your
counselling skills in working with trauma, dissociation, and eating issues.
There will be audio-taped and live demonstrations, and you will get to practice using
your new skills in ego state and PsychoSomatic Integration (see
here) as applied to eating issues. Focus will be on
transference, countertransference and the therapeutic relationship. The
Advanced Course will be more practical and hands on in nature.
