has
been
providing psychotherapy for the past 24 years
specialising in helping women with eating disturbances overcome compulsive
eating and attain body acceptance, as well as in helping survivors of trauma
reclaim their lives and learn to thrive again. She recently relocated to New
Zealand after receiving her Ph.D in Humanities with a specialisation in trauma
psychology, and now offers counselling services in West Auckland. She has also been providing supervision and training for professional
therapists throughout the U.S. for the past 22 years. She studied with
Francine Shapiro (Founder of the EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and
Reprocessing - Institute), Pat Ogden (who developed a type of Hakomi or
body-mind mindfulness approach tailored to trauma survivors),
and Susie Orbach (author of Fat is a Feminist Issue and Hunger Strike) and The
Women’s Therapy Centre Institute in New York City learning their feminist
approach to overcoming compulsive eating. She has integrated these
approaches to mind and body healing and developed and now uses and teaches PSITM,

Individual Counselling Using PsychoSomatic Integration
PsychoSomatic Integration (PSI TM ) is especially helpful in working with problems that tend to dissociate mind from body (e.g., eating and body image problems, anxiety, sleep disturbances, physical symptoms, etc.) PSI enables you to re-embody yourself, identify and establish personal boundaries, match the right “feed to the right need”, and frees up energy entangled in obsessions and compulsions, or drained by body memories and reenactments. PSI is an overall theory and approach developed by Judy Lightstone. It incorporates Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and bodily mindfulness, attachment repair, ego state work, derivatives of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) such as Lifespan Integration and the DNMS (Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy), all based on a foundation of feminist relational therapy. These approaches to mind and body healing are integrated to address the whole person. If you are an ex-client of mine, and wish to touch base or have a few online (using video over the internet) sessions, you may call my California Skype-in telephone (510) 962-7505 or send me an email at jlightstone@gmail.com For professional consultation and training for psychotherapists in this approach, click here
